Club welcomes World & Commonwealth Games Champion Kelsey Cottrell to the club

It has been a very busy and successful start to the 2021 Calendar Year for bowls at the Club. We have finished our first club championship in the Mens & Ladies Fours and offer our congratulations to Charmayne Sleeman, Jacinta Weier, Cass Millerick and Bolivia Millerick on winning the Ladies title and to Paul Ryan, Geoff Lanham, Chris Lanham and Kevin Anderson on winning the Men’s title for the second year in a row.

The Premier League is almost complete with both grades currently in the top 5. Pine Rivers is the only other club to have both divisions currently in playoff positions. A big couple rounds against Burleigh Heads and Kawana away will be important for the season.

The premier 7s have concluded their first week of competition and the club won seven of the eight divisions which was a fantastic start. Thank you to all umpires and markers who made the first weekend such a success.

Thank you also to the selectors Barry Jackson, Dennis Margan, Christina Pavlov and Kevin Anderson, an estimated eight hours were spent picking the teams for the first week - a very hard job and great team work.

We welcome Kelsey Cottrell to the club as a full member. Kelsey is a World and Commonwealth Games Champion and current Jackaroo picked to play singles for Australia at the next World Championships. To have such a high profile player as Kelsey representing the club, Queensland and Australia is great promotion for the club ~ on all Bowls Australia Media Releases it will now say Kelsey Cottrell (Broadbeach)

Social bowls is still continuing better than we've ever seen. A waiting list, in the heart of summer, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings is fantastic and something we never thought would have been possible a couple of years ago. Green 4 is only a fortnight away from coming back in, so hopefully we can get four greens of social bowlers playing. The afternoon social is progressing well with new members enjoying the friendly convivial atmosphere with over 30 players each afternoon. Wednesday nights are also going well with around 12 rinks and we're delighted to see the premier league players supporting these evenings and playing with different members of the club.

We have received a record amount of entries for both the Men’s and Ladies Club Pairs. The first two rounds will be played on Sunday, 14 February with 21 February for the next 2 rounds.

Not too much to report on the greens. Green 1 has come back in since last months report and Green 4 has gone out. A big shout out to all members who helped scarifying and spreading sand. The greens are running great and Les and Chris are continuously monitoring and spraying them to keep them in premium condition.
